Consultation on proposed boundary changes for Bristol’s Wards

The Boundary Commission is currently carrying out an electoral review of Bristol City Council. The aim of the electoral review is to recommend ward boundaries that mean each city councillor represents approximately the same number of voters.

The commission is currently conducting a consultation on their draft proposals which closes on 16 February 2015.

The largest single topic of significant interest to our current 3-Ward Neighbourhood Partnership of Henleaze, Stoke Bishop & Westbury-on-Trym, is the recommendation to include the heart of Westbury Village in the proposed new Ward for Henleaze! However, the Commission readily admits that it would particularly welcome submissions on the proposed Henleaze and Westbury-on-Trym areas.

Full details can be accessed via this link: Proposed Boundaries and a link to the consultation map can be assessed via this link: Consultation Map and within the latter is a link to “Have Your Say”.

It is disappointing to note that the views of our MP, Charlotte Lesley and MEP, Ashley Fox that were submitted during an earlier consultation in July/August/September 2014 have, to all intents and purposes, been ignored!

  1. Patrick and Janet Carroll says:

We wish to express concern about the boundary change removing us from Westbury on Trym to Southmead. Our address is 31 Southmead Road, (we have lived here for 37 years) we are on the edge of both Henleaze and Westbury but Westbury ward does listen to us. Southmead will have no interest in us on the far reaches so we become invisible. We know nothing about the affairs of Southmead except that it is an enormous estate. We shop and have interests in both Henleaze and Westbury never Southmead, why move us?

      Hi Patrick,

I’ve only just found out about this change and am also unhappy. Have you been on the Local Government Boundary Commission website. There’s a link to have your say but the deadline is 16th of Feb 2015.

  2. Norma and Terence Kurton says:

We havw lived at no 29 Southmead Road which continues from Henleaze Road. We have
much more to do with Henleaze and Westbury-onTrym than Southmead. I strongly
object to the proposed changes and endorse the views of Janet and Patrick Carroll

I have already had words with George about two ward being call St George and SPEEDWELL being ignored. We would like SPEEDWELL to be reinstated as ward. the Council seems determined to remove the name of SPEEDWELL from Bristol. All the miners who toiled in the pits in this area will be turning in there graves. You have remove our medical centre, T.A, swimming pool and fire station and rename our school. So right this wrong make Greater St George SPEEDWELL

  4. Richard Coverdale says:

We live on Cranham Road and the proposed changes would see that our ward which is currently in Westury on Trym is expanded into the Southmead Ward. We shop in Henleaze and Westbury on Trym, our Drs is in Henleaze my wife attends playgroups in Westbury on Trym and Henleaze we feel part of these communities. We have no connection with the Southmead community and dont believe we will be properly represented by the Southmead Ward. We are strongly against becoming part of the proposed Southmenad Ward. I dont understand why the Henleaze Lake area hasn’t naturally been proposed to be part of the Henleaze Ward?

  5. Cynthia says:

Ashley Fox MEP comments below show’s how little he knows about our community.
This was taken from the link above.

“Roads such as Lake Road and Delvin Road are also better placed towards the Southmead
community than the Westbury community and I would suggest that these be included in
    the Southmead Ward”.

As per comments above we conduct our day to day lives within Henleaze and Westbury on Trym.
