Sustrans’ Street Pockets Project

Sustrans is working with 15 communities in Bristol, to help them transform their streets. Sustrans’ Street Pockets Project is part of Bristol Green Capital and they are working with all of Bristol City Council’s Neighbourhood Partnerships.Residents changing their street.Sustrans will convert one or two car parking spaces on each of the chosen streets into attractive places to sit, socialise, play or just make your street greener and more active. The change might include a mini-park, a swing, a community notice board, artwork, trees, plants, bicycle parking or even a bicycle pump station.

As a community, you will decide what the Street Pocket will be – and where. Sustrans are looking for people who want to work with their neighbours – you’ll need to take on the communication and coordination that will lead to the creation of the Street Pocket.

With parking at a premium in many of our roads, this represents a considerable challenge across most – if not all – of our NP. However, you may think that your street could qualify!

One caveat is that any chosen street has to be a 20mph residential street.

Our NP can apply during the period 22-28 June and full details, including an application form, can be found on the Sustrans’ website:
