Hiatt Baker Halls of Residence: Planning Application

The following planning application has now been submitted by the University. The details can be viewed online on the BCC website – www.bristol.gov.uk.

The City Council is seeking views by the end of March, and the recently formed Stoke Bishop Residents’ Planning Group is considering a response. If you would like　the Group　to take your views into account, please send them to Roger Gamlin rogergamlin@aol.com), the RPG’s co-convenor.

However please note that this does not, of course, preclude individual responses also being sent direct to the Council.

HIATT BAKER CONSULTATION – Drop-in meeting

Message from the Developers:

Further to the initial public consultation that took place last November we

are holding a follow up round of consultation w/c 20 February. Public

sessions will be taking place in the Wills Conference Centre on Thursday 23

February from 3.30 until 7.00 pm with a further session on Saturday 25 February

from 1000 am until 2.00 pm. Postcards will be delivered locally over the next few

days.

BCC’s New Waste Collection Contract

On 1st November 2011 May Gurney Ltd took over the contract to collect all refuse and recycling from Bristol’s 190,000 households. The contract also includes street cleansing and winter gritting operations. The new contract is for an initial 7 year period and is designed to help the council reach its three year goal of sending zero untreated waste to landfill and boost its recycling rate in addition to saving Bristol City Council £2.5 million a year in costs. In order to achieve the targets set, the service will see some changes.

Plastics will be collected at the kerbside for all residents, not just those included in the current trial
Waxed cartons (Tetrapaks) will also be collected at the kerbside for all residents
Cardboard and food waste will be collected by the Recycling Recovery Vehicle (RRV) and therefore not mixed with garden waste. This will enable the cardboard to be recycled
Residents will be receiving a new 55ltr box for recycling to use alongside the existing box. This new box should be filled with plastics, cans, cardboard and Tetrapaks
Street cleansing will now be specifically scheduled to be visited the day after kerbside collections
